EPHA3 (ephrin receptor A3) is a receptor tyrosine kinase that preferentially binds glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored ephrins resulting in activation of downstream signaling pathways that control cell adhesion, cell migration, cells spreading and proliferation. EPHA3 is highly expressed during embryonic development and is overexpressed in various cancer types, including sarcoma, leukemia, glioblastoma and hepatocellular cancer. EPHA3 loss-of-function mutations have been identified in various cancer types including lung cancer, melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers resulting in decreased EPHA3 signaling and enhanced cellular proliferation.
